Welcome to "Das Dorf" (The Village) - Living for people with disabilities

Das Dorf - Living in old age

The Village lies in Selbeck, a southern district of the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr. Embedded in a rural, almost idyllically charming surroundings, it is simultaneously very well connected to the public suburban transportation system and the road network. Living accompanied by curative education is the integrating component of “Das Dorf”.

A total of about 600 old and young people with and without disabilities live here. “Das Dorf” offers an entirely normal social exchange, simultaneously meeting the needs of the residents for security and shelter. The uppermost aim of the integrating concepts of living are various life forms which come as close as possible to the individual needs and desires of the residents.

“Das Dorf” is the successful experiment of implementing a new quality of the life, of exchange, of normality. It is the colourful living and interacting together with a working environment. One meets each other in the bistro, the plazas, in the church and elsewhere for shared celebrations. A total of six different notable architects ensure a diversity of architectural style signatures that avoid structural monotony.

You will find an overview of the  village grounds here.
